Jessica Chastain and Nnamdi Asomugha Star in Apple TV+ Extremist Thriller ‘The Savant’ [Trailer]

Apple TV+ has unveiled the trailer for The Savant, an intense new eight-episode limited series starring and executive produced by Jessica Chastain. The series makes its global debut on Friday, September 26, 2025, with the first two episodes, followed by weekly releases through November 7.

Chastain plays the titular “Savant,” a brilliant undercover investigator tasked with infiltrating online hate groups in order to stop domestic extremists before they strike. Inspired by Andrea Stanley’s 2019 Cosmopolitan article “Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?”, the character is based on a real former Marine and police officer known only as “K,” who worked with the FBI to prevent multiple attacks, including a foiled 2009 bombing plot.

Joining Chastain in the high-stakes thriller is Nnamdi Asomugha, reuniting with the Oscar winner after their collaboration on The Good Nurse. The ensemble also features Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste, and guest star Pablo Schreiber. James Badge Dale is set for a major recurring role.

Behind the camera, the series is helmed by showrunner and writer Melissa James Gibson (Anatomy of a Scandal, House of Cards), with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Matthew Heineman (A Private War, Cartel Land) directing and executive producing. Additional executive producers include Kelly Carmichael and Chastain for Freckle Films, Alan Poul, Garrett Kemble, and David Levine. Stanley also serves as a consultant on the project. Produced by Freckle Films, Fifth Season, and Anonymous Content, The Savant explores both the psychological and personal costs of living a double life in service of protecting the nation.

First-look images show Chastain and Asomugha caught in an intimate yet tense moment, hinting at the domestic struggles her character faces while concealing her dangerous work.

With The Savant, Apple TV+ adds another prestige thriller to its slate, joining the upcoming seasons of The Morning Show and Slow Horses as part of its fall lineup.
