Netflix has released the official trailer for Thrash, a shark thriller starring Whitney Peak, Djimon Hounsou, and Phoebe Dynevor. The film arrives on the streamer April 10, 2026, after originally being developed for a theatrical release through Sony Pictures.
Directed by Tommy Wirkola, known for Violent Night and Dead Snow, the film blends disaster movie spectacle with creature horror as a Category 5 hurricane devastates a coastal town and floodwaters bring in something even more dangerous — sharks.
The story unfolds as residents try to survive the storm’s destruction while navigating flooded streets, collapsing structures, and predators suddenly swimming through their neighborhoods. Dynevor plays a pregnant woman determined to make it through the chaos, while Peak and Hounsou are among those fighting to keep people alive as the town becomes a deadly battleground between the elements and the creatures circling in the rising water.
The project had a winding path to release. It was first announced in 2024 under the title Beneath the Storm as part of Sony’s theatrical slate. The film was later retitled Shiver and given a summer release date before being pulled from the studio’s calendar earlier this year. After a brief period without a title, Netflix stepped in to distribute the film globally and the project was renamed Thrash.
Produced by Adam McKay and Kevin J. Messick through HyperObject Industries alongside Wirkola, the movie leans into the filmmaker’s reputation for high-concept chaos and visceral action. The cast also includes Alyla Browne, Stacy Clausen, Costa D’Angelo, Amy Mathews, Elijah Ungvary, Dante Ubaldi, Jon Prasida, Gemma Dart, Akosia Sabet, Sian Luxford, and Sami Afuni.
Production took place in Australia, with filming around Melbourne including Docklands Studios, Canterbury, Mount Macedon, and Mornington Pier. The film carries an R rating for bloody violent content, grisly images, and language.
With its hurricane setting and relentless predator attacks, Thrash taps into the same survival-thriller energy that made films like Crawl a hit, but scales the danger up as an entire town is forced to outrun both the storm and the sharks swimming through it.
Thrash begins streaming April 10 on Netflix.
