Grammy winner Toni Braxton is set to headline two upcoming movies for Lifetime as part of her multi-picture deal with the network, each inspired by her hit songs. The first, He Wasn’t Man Enough, draws directly from Braxton’s 2000 chart-topper and brings together a powerhouse cast led by Braxton, Essence Atkins (Ambitions), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), and Thomas Cadrot (The Night Agent).
Premiering November 22 at 8/7c as part of Lifetime’s Love of a Lifetime slate, the film follows Mel Montgomery (Braxton), a bestselling author whose world unravels when she discovers her boyfriend Richard (Cadrot) has been deceiving her. The betrayal cuts deeper when Mel learns Richard is now engaged to Monica (Atkins), her estranged college friend. With the help of Candy (Brown), her loyal best friend, the two women set aside old wounds to stand united.
What begins as heartbreak becomes a story of resilience and solidarity, proving Richard chose the wrong women to cross. In the end, the film underscores that it was never about the man—it was always about the women who chose each other.
Directed by Stan Brooks and executive produced by Braxton, Tanya Lopez, Kenneth Crear, and Gemma Martini, the movie was penned by Aireka Muse, Tara Knight, and Angela Nissel and produced by Lighthouse Pictures.
He Wasn’t Man Enough is the first of two Lifetime projects from Braxton that channel her music into scripted storytelling. The move mirrors Lifetime’s recent collaboration with Mary J. Blige, who also developed original films inspired by her hit songs.
