The world of Toy Story 5 just got a new voice.
Deadline reports Krys Marshall (Paradise) is officially joining the cast of Pixar’s highly anticipated sequel, directed by Andrew Stanton. This fifth installment pushes the franchise into modern territory, as Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the crew face an entirely new kind of threat—not another toy, but a device.
The iconic trio—Buzz (Tim Allen), Woody (Tom Hanks), and Jessie (Joan Cusack)—find themselves competing for attention when a smart tablet named Lilypad (voiced by Greta Lee) takes over playtime.
While details about Marshall’s character remain under wraps, she’ll voice a parent navigating her child’s growing obsession with technology—a perspective that plays directly into the film’s central conflict: toys vs. screens.
It’s a concept that taps into a very real cultural shift, one Marshall herself connected to.
Speaking about the film’s themes, she reflected on how screen time has quietly reshaped everyday life—especially for kids—while still emphasizing the enduring power of imagination. That tension between connection and distraction sits at the heart of the story.
From Fan to Franchise
Marshall’s journey into the Toy Story universe is as organic as it gets.
After working with Stanton on For All Mankind, she reached out to him directly after hearing he’d be returning to direct the fifth film. What started as a hopeful email turned into a full-circle moment months later when she landed the role.
For Marshall, who grew up watching the franchise, the opportunity carries personal weight—especially now as a parent herself.
A Stacked Cast (New and Returning)
Toy Story 5 continues to blend legacy voices with fresh additions. Alongside returning favorites like Annie Potts, Wallace Shawn, and John Ratzenberger, the new film introduces a lineup of new characters and voices, including:
- Mykal-Michelle Harris as Blaze
- Craig Robinson as Atlas
- Ernie Hudson stepping into the role of Combat Carl following the passing of Carl Weathers
- Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants
- Tony Hale returning as Forky
Fan favorites like Keanu Reeves (Duke Caboom) and Kristen Schaal (Trixie) are also back in the mix.
The Return of Woody and Buzz
The film will also revisit one of the franchise’s most emotional turning points—Woody’s departure at the end of Toy Story 4. This time, the story teases a long-awaited reunion between Woody and Buzz, bringing the saga full circle while introducing new emotional stakes.
Release Date
Toy Story 5 hits theaters nationwide on June 19, 2026—more than 30 years after the original film changed animation forever.
And if this installment proves anything, it’s that while times evolve and technology advances, Pixar is still betting on something simple: imagination will always win.
