Michael Jai White is back—and this time, he’s bringing Method Man along for the ride. Samuel Goldwyn Films has officially released the trailer for Trouble Man, a new action-comedy written, directed by, and starring White. The film recently made its debut at the 2025 American Black Film Festival in Miami and will hit select theaters and digital platforms on August 1.
Set in the heart of Atlanta, Trouble Man follows Jaxen, a former cop turned private investigator, who’s pulled into a dangerous mission when he’s hired to find missing R&B superstar Jahari. What starts as a routine job quickly escalates as he uncovers a deep-rooted conspiracy that forces him to not only confront dangerous enemies but also his own past. With street thugs, slick hustlers, and Chinese mobsters in his path, Jaxen must rely on his instincts, martial arts mastery, and dry wit to survive.
White, who previously helmed Outlaw Johnny Black and two installments of Never Back Down, pulls double duty once again, delivering hard-hitting action alongside a strong dose of comedy. Trouble Man also stars Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Mike Epps, La La Anthony, Orlando Jones, Gillian White, Arnold Chon, and Deldric Dunning. The film’s action is elevated by the work of action director Joey Min and fight choreographers Stephanie Pham and Angela Jordan, promising plenty of kicks, punches, and stylized showdowns.
The film was written by Michael Jai White and Michael Stradford, and produced by White, Craig Baumgarten, and Ron Robinson. With its stylish blend of detective noir, martial arts, and humor, Trouble Man marks yet another entry in White’s growing legacy of genre-bending films rooted in Black storytelling and action cinema tradition.
Whether you’re in it for the fight scenes, the mystery, or just want to see Method Man and Michael Jai White trade lines and blows, Trouble Man promises a ride worth taking. The film opens August 1 in theaters and on VOD. Watch the trailer now.
