Tubi Unveils Trailer and Premiere Date for ‘The Moment,’ Celebrating 50 Years of Women’s Basketball

Tubi is stepping into sports history with The Moment, a new documentary chronicling five decades of women’s basketball and the cultural forces that shaped the game into what it is today. The film will premiere Friday, February 6, streaming exclusively on Tubi.

At the center of the documentary is the historic, undefeated 2023–2024 South Carolina Gamecocks season and the enduring impact of head coach Dawn Staley, whose influence on and off the court has helped redefine women’s basketball at every level. South Carolina Gamecocks’ dominant run serves as a modern-day anchor for a story that stretches back to the sport’s grassroots beginnings.

Directed by Kristen Lappas and Sarah Springer, The Moment blends archival footage, cultural context, and present-day milestones to trace how women’s basketball grew from underfunded gymnasiums into a global phenomenon commanding sold-out arenas and mainstream attention.

The film features interviews spanning generations of the sport, including Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Sue Bird, Geno Auriemma, Aaliyah Boston, Rebecca Lobo, and A’ja Wilson, offering perspective on how the game evolved across eras—and what it took to push it forward.

Produced by investor and business leader Thomas Tull, the documentary is executive produced by Jillian Share, Josh Miller, Connor Schell, Jonathan Hock, Libby Geist, Alexa Conway, and Angela T. O’Neal. The Moment is a production of Teton Ridge Entertainment and Words and Pictures.

With its focus on legacy, leadership, and generational impact, The Moment positions women’s basketball not just as a sport, but as a cultural movement—one that continues to redefine visibility, excellence, and opportunity.

‘The Moment’ premieres February 6 on Tubi.
