‘Uncharted’ Documentary on Alicia Keys’ ‘She Is The Music’ Songwriting Camp Sets Premiere Date [TRAILER]

Paramount+ has revealed that Uncharted, the upcoming documentary featuring Alicia Keys, will premiere on Tuesday, October 22 in the U.S. and Canada. The documentary will debut the following day, October 23, in the U.K., Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, with a later release in Japan on November 15.

Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Beth Aala, Uncharted takes viewers behind the scenes of Alicia Keys’ ‘She Is The Music’ songwriting camp. The documentary focuses on the challenges faced by young Black and brown women in the music industry, shining a light on the systemic lack of access and opportunity in the business.

Throughout the film, participants from the songwriting camp share their experiences as they work to create the next big hit. Among the featured artists are Ayoni, a Barbados-born singer following in Rihanna’s footsteps, DaVionne from Atlanta, who broke into the industry by collaborating with well-known artists, and Chicago’s Jean Deaux, who juggles writing, recording, and producing while touring.

Alicia Keys, who also serves as an executive producer, emphasized the all-women production team behind the film. “Everything done in this film was done by women in every capacity,” Keys said in a statement. “You get a true sense of the journey of these artists and the songwriting process, which is so special.”

Uncharted made its global debut at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival and has generated buzz for its focus on gender inclusion in music. The film is produced by Abby Greensfelder’s Everywoman Studios in collaboration with MTV Entertainment Studios. Executive producers for the project include media icons like Katie Couric, along with Keys, Brenda Robinson, Regina K. Scully, and Geralyn White Dreyfous.

The documentary promises to offer an intimate glimpse into the creative process of emerging artists and the roadblocks they encounter as they seek recognition in a notoriously tough industry.
