Trailer Drops for Holiday Dramedy Unexpected Christmas Starring Lil Rel Howery & Tabitha Brown

’Tis the season for messy, merry reunions. The official trailer for Unexpected Christmas has arrived, teasing a holiday dramedy led by Lil Rel Howery and Tabitha Brown that promises laughter, chaos, and a few family secrets. The film hits theaters nationwide on November 7.

Howery and Brown not only star but also serve as executive producers on the project. They’re joined by an ensemble cast that includes Anna Maria Horsford, DomiNque Perry, Reagan Gomez, Terrence Terrell, Trell Woodberry, Howie Bell, Cecelia Friday, Ricco Ross, and Koryn Hawthorne.

Directed by Michael Vaughn Hernandez and written by Cassandra Mann, Unexpected Christmas follows the Scott family’s long-awaited reunion — one that quickly spirals into hilarity. Marissa (Perry) returns home after a breakup, only to be blindsided when her ex, Richard (Howery), shows up with her estranged stepsister Kerry (Gomez). Trying to save face, Marissa invites a surprise guest of her own, but Kerry has a scheme brewing that could upend the entire celebration.

Between romantic mix-ups, old rivalries, and more than a few jaw-dropping secrets, this Christmas could either bring the Scotts closer together — or blow the roof off the house.

Brown shared in a statement:

“Christmas movies are literally the gift that keeps on giving. Unexpected Christmas is relatable and hilarious, but will truly be a gift for all families this holiday season.”

Howery added:

“This movie and this cast is so special and will be the holiday movie everyone will be talking about.”

Produced by Trell Woodberry, Phil Thornton, and Perrí Camper, with Howery, Brown, and Norman Gyamfi serving as executive producers, the film is being co-distributed by 3 Diamonds Films and Eammon Films.

“We’re proud to bring Unexpected Christmas to audiences this November — a true labor of love from our amazing cast and crew,” said producers Thornton and Woodberry. “As a Black-owned company, we’re honored to share a story that celebrates our voices, artistry, and impact on the global stage.”
