Another season, another milestone for Virgin River. Netflix has renewed the fan-favorite romantic drama for Season 8, making it the streamer’s longest-running original scripted series to date.
The new season will once again consist of 10 episodes and comes just days after production wrapped on Season 7. Since its 2019 debut, Virgin River has become a comfort staple, outlasting past Netflix hits like Grace and Frankie, Orange Is the New Black, and Elite in both seasons and episode count.
Led by Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson, the cast also includes Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Sarah Dugdale, Zibby Allen, Marco Grazzini, Kai Bradbury, and Mark Ghanimé. Filming for Season 7 took place in Vancouver with a short shoot in Mexico—marking the first time the series has filmed outside its usual Canadian setting.
The story, based on Robyn Carr’s best-selling novels, began with nurse practitioner Mel Monroe’s move to the remote town of Virgin River for a fresh start. What followed was a layered tale of small-town life, love, loss, healing, and community—anchored by an ensemble cast and a steady emotional core.
While Virgin River doesn’t rely on high-stakes spectacle, its sustainable model and strong ratings have helped it outlast many of the platform’s splashier dramas. Since Season 3, the show has appeared in Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV list 30 times and garnered more than 140 million views. It also ranks among the longest-running series on the Nielsen Top 10 chart, with 38 weeks total.
Season 6 premiered earlier this year and Season 7 is expected to debut in late 2025 or early 2026. With Season 8 now officially in the works, Virgin River continues to prove there’s staying power in heartfelt storytelling and strong characters.
