‘Watson’ Season 2 Trailer + First Look Teases a Shocking Return Ahead of Premiere

CBS just dropped the official trailer for Watson Season 2, and it’s clear—everything is about to change for Dr. John Watson.

Following Moriarty’s death in the Season 1 finale, the new episodes shift from vengeance to introspection. Watson continues to lead his clinic in investigating the world’s rarest diseases while confronting his own moral and emotional scars.

The trailer reflects that shift, revealing a tone that’s darker, sharper, and more personal. As Mary reminds him, “You push boundaries. This is what you do.” But this time, it’s not just his patients’ lives on the line — it’s his own sense of self.

Debuting exclusively via TV Insider, the first look opens with Watson (Morris Chestnut) seemingly back to his routine life — until a familiar voice interrupts his morning. “Everything changes, Dr. Watson. Everything,” someone warns as he leaves Laila (Tika Sumpter) in bed. Moments later, he discovers someone raiding his fridge, only to hear the chilling yet iconic greeting: “My dear Watson.”

That’s right—someone long presumed dead seems to have returned, setting the tone for a season that blurs the line between past and present, science and mystery.

A New Case, A Familiar Ghost

The upcoming season premiere, titled “A Son in the Oven,” kicks off with a deeply personal case for Watson. When Mary Morstan’s (Rochelle Aytes) mother accidentally poisons herself while suffering from a rare and fast-progressing form of dementia, Watson and his team of “doc-tectives” step in.

“She’s suffering from a mysterious condition that makes her believe she’s 25 years old and pregnant with her first child,” executive producer Craig Sweeny revealed for TV Insider.

But as Watson races to save Mary’s mother, a larger twist unfolds — the shocking reappearance of a figure who forces him to confront buried secrets and unfinished business.

Watson returns Monday, October 13 at 10/9c on CBS, and streams live and on-demand on Paramount+.

Returning Cast and New Faces

Morris Chestnut leads the ensemble once again as Dr. John Watson, alongside Tika Sumpter, Rochelle Aytes, Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Ritchie Coster, and Inga Schlingmann. Randall Park, who portrayed the enigmatic Moriarty, may also reappear in flashbacks or hallucinations.

Season 2 welcomes several new faces to the world of Watson. Robert Carlyle joins the cast in a recurring role as the legendary detective whose return shakes up Watson’s life and challenges his moral compass. The Enemy Within alum Noah Mills also joins as Beck Wythe, a former Silicon Valley risk-taker who bonds with Ingrid Derian (Harlow) in group therapy.
