The one-minute teaser opens with Zlatko Burić (Triangle of Sadness) as Von Kovak, a fictional filmmaker being interviewed about his decision to remake Wonder Man. He immediately cuts off the interviewer to say:
“Why one more superhero film? Everyone is tired of superheroes. Why go see them in the cinema?”
It’s a line that lands directly in the middle of a real-world conversation about the genre’s oversaturation — but here, it’s spoken by a character inside the MCU. Kovak insists the project “spoke to him on a deep level” and that there’s “an opportunity to reimagine the whole genre of storytelling.”
The teaser then cuts to Simon Williams (Abdul-Mateen II) watching the interview on his phone, teasing the layered Hollywood storyline at the center of the show.
Inside the Story
In Wonder Man, Abdul-Mateen II plays Simon Williams — a stuntman and struggling actor who gains real superpowers and lands a role playing himself in a superhero series. The concept allows Marvel to play within its own universe while introducing a new kind of hero navigating both fame and identity.
The series also stars:
- Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (Grim Reaper)
- Ed Harris as Neal Saroyan, Simon’s agent
- Arian Moayed reprising his MCU role as P. Cleary
- Ben Kingsley returning as Trevor Slattery, the washed-up actor from Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi
- Lauren Glazier, Josh Gad, Byron Bowers, Bechir Sylvain, and Manny McCord in undisclosed roles
You can also spot a cameo from X Mayo in the teaser, though it hasn’t been confirmed whether she’ll appear in the series or was included for promotional purposes.
What to Expect
Wonder Man sits firmly within Marvel’s Phase Six, following the events of Deadpool & Wolverine. While the teaser doesn’t reveal much plot, it makes clear that Marvel is willing to at least acknowledge the audience’s fatigue — even within its own story.
Comic Book Roots
In the comics, Simon Williams inherits his family’s weapons business but loses everything competing with Stark Industries. After being manipulated by Baron Zemo, he’s transformed into Wonder Man, a villain-turned-Avenger powered by ionic energy.
With Doctor Doom positioned as the MCU’s next major threat, Wonder Man could quietly connect to the broader narrative of Marvel’s upcoming Avengers films.
Release Date
Wonder Man premieres exclusively on Disney+ in January 2026.
Whether audiences are ready for another superhero story or not, Marvel’s latest series doesn’t ignore the fatigue — it acknowledges it outright and dares to move forward anyway.
