Wunmi Mosaku, Charlie Cox, and Elliott Heffernan Join Idris Elba in Apple Original Film ‘This Is How It Goes’

Apple Original Films’ adaptation of Neil LaBute’s psychological thriller This Is How It Goes has expanded its cast.

We previously reported that Idris Elba would direct and star in the feature, which is being produced in partnership with 22Summers and Gaumont. The newly announced cast, originally read on The British Blacklist, now includes Wunmi Mosaku — who reunites with Elba, the duo both starred in Luther together — Charlie Cox (Daredevil), and Elliott Heffernan (Blitz).

The screenplay is penned by Nathaniel Price (Mr. Loverman, The Outlaws), with production beginning this month across the U.K. and Accra, Ghana. The project marks the first Apple Original Films production to shoot in Ghana, reinforcing Elba’s ongoing commitment to developing international film partnerships and investing in the continent’s growing creative sector.

Based on LaBute’s acclaimed 2005 play, This Is How It Goes explores an interracial love triangle in small-town America — a story that peels back the layers of identity, prejudice, and manipulation when a couple takes in an old friend. Elba starred in the West End production that same year alongside Ben Chaplin and Megan Dodds, and while he played the character Cody on stage, his role in the film adaptation has not yet been revealed.

The feature is produced by Gina Carter for 22Summers and Alison Jackson for Gaumont, alongside T D Afrique in Ghana, with Sidonie Dumas serving as executive producer for Gaumont.

Elba, whose partnership with Apple continues to grow following the success of his series Hijack, has several projects on the horizon, including Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite (for Netflix) and the Lionsgate feature Above the Below, which he also directs.
