Netflix has released the first teaser and images for its upcoming action drama Man on Fire, offering a first look at Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, the haunted former Special Forces mercenary at the center of the new series adaptation of A. J. Quinnell’s bestselling novels.
Based on Quinnell’s book series that began with the 1980 novel of the same name, Man on Fire follows Creasy, once regarded as a highly skilled mercenary capable of surviving the most unforgiving situations. Now struggling with the emotional fallout of his past, Creasy sets out on a path toward healing. But before he can fully confront his demons, he finds himself thrown back into a dangerous mission—one that forces him to fight harder than ever.
Set to premiere April 30, 2026, the seven-episode series reimagines the story previously brought to the screen in the 2004 film starring Denzel Washington, shifting the focus toward a longer-form character study of Creasy’s psychological scars and his struggle for redemption.
In this adaptation, the story shifts slightly from the film version by aging up the young person Creasy is tasked with protecting. Instead of a child, the series centers on Poe Rayburn, a teenager who becomes entangled in a terrifying situation that ultimately ties her fate to Creasy’s.
The newly released images showcase Creasy navigating the gritty streets of Brazil while confronting enemies who threaten the fragile peace he is trying to build. The teaser, meanwhile, teases explosive action and a deeply personal journey for the troubled protector.

The teaser hints at the intense emotional and physical battles ahead for Creasy, who is attempting to rebuild his life while grappling with severe PTSD. However, as danger resurfaces, he is once again pulled into a violent world that demands the very skills he’s trying to leave behind.
Developed by Kyle Killen, known for his work on Halo and Awake, the series is directed in part by Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts), who helms the first two episodes and also serves as an executive producer. The show is produced by New Regency Productions and Chernin Entertainment, with Abdul-Mateen also attached as an executive producer.
Man on Fire premieres April 30, 2026 on Netflix.
