The romance drama Secrets, Scores, and Scandal will make its world premiere at the 16th Annual BronzeLens Film Festival, with tickets now on sale.
Starring reality TV star, actress, and entrepreneur Yandy Smith-Harris alongside model and actor Travis Cure, the film blends love, betrayal, and high-stakes truth-telling, drawing inspiration from one of Atlanta’s most notorious education scandals.
In the film, Sabrina McCoy (Smith-Harris), a dedicated and outspoken teacher, uncovers deep-rooted corruption tied to standardized test scores in her Atlanta school. As she fights to protect her students and her own integrity, she meets Michael Adams (Cure) — a man whose charisma and convictions spark undeniable chemistry. But their romance is soon tested when Michael’s hidden connection to the scandal threatens to unravel everything.
The screening will take place Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Atlanta’s iconic Tara Theater.
Loosely inspired by the 2009 Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal — a case that made national headlines 16 years ago — the film examines the pressures and politics teachers face behind closed doors, and the personal costs of standing up for what’s right.
“I wanted to tell a story that was both entertaining and socially relevant,” said writer-director Sabreen Shabazz. “This is a story about integrity, love, and the human cost of corruption. As a former teacher, it’s personal for me — and one I think many people still don’t know.”
The world premiere will be part of BronzeLens, an Academy Award®–qualifying festival that celebrates filmmakers of color from around the globe. The Atlanta screening holds special significance, bringing the story back to the city where the real-life events took place.
