Zach Cherry and Kali Reis Join the Cast of Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ Reboot

The Resident Evil legacy continues to evolve. Sony Pictures has officially set its upcoming reboot in motion, with Severance actor Zach Cherry, True Detective: Night Country breakout Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson (I Love That for You) joining the cast.

They join Austin Abrams, who leads the film from Weapons and Barbarian director Zach Cregger — marking a bold new chapter for one of gaming’s most enduring horror franchises.

While story details are still tightly guarded, what we do know points toward a return to the series’ roots: a hapless courier, a mysterious package, and the kind of corporate conspiracy that’s fueled the series since Umbrella Corporation first unleashed the T-virus in 1996.

Rather than retelling past storylines or revisiting characters like Jill Valentine or Leon Kennedy, Cregger’s vision aims to re-capture the claustrophobic dread and slow-burn tension of Capcom’s original survival-horror games — all while introducing a completely new set of faces.

Production begins this month in Prague, with Sony Pictures releasing Resident Evil in theaters on September 18, 2026, just in time for the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Over nearly three decades, Resident Evil has spanned more than 150 million game sales, multiple animated adaptations, and seven live-action films. From the Raccoon City outbreak to global bioweapon warfare, the series has remained the blueprint for horror-meets-sci-fi storytelling — influencing everything from The Last of Us to The Walking Dead.

Cregger’s reboot promises to bring the terror back to where it started: confined corridors, unpredictable monsters, and humanity’s hubris gone wrong.
