Wunmi Mosaku, Sopé Dìrísù & Abou Sangaré Among Winners at the 35th Gotham Awards [FULL LIST]

The 35th annual Gotham Awards are underway in Manhattan, and Black talent is already making a powerful showing as early winners roll in.

Sopé Dìrísù earned Outstanding Lead Performance for My Father’s Shadow (Mubi), marking the film’s second win of the night alongside Akinola Davies Jr., who picked up Breakthrough Director. The Cannes-debuting drama follows two young brothers reconnecting with their estranged father (Dìrísù) during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis.

Wunmi Mosaku won Outstanding Supporting Performance for her role as Annie, the Hoodoo conjurer and spiritual guide in Warner Bros.’ breakout horror hit Sinners.

Abou Sangaré claimed Breakthrough Performer for Souleymane’s Story (Kino Lorber), a Cannes Jury Prize–winning drama about a Guinean immigrant fighting to stay afloat in Paris.

The ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street officially kicks off awards season, with winners being announced throughout the night.
