ABC has released new trailers for both 9-1-1’s milestone tenth season and 9-1-1: Nashville’s second season, with both shows returning Thursday, October 15.
The flagship 9-1-1 kicks off Season 10 with a literal volcano. Showrunner Tim Minear says the season opens with a sinkhole that develops into a full volcanic eruption in the middle of Los Angeles, built on what he calls “very hard science” despite the premise’s inherent chaos. The season continues threads planted in Season 9: Athena (Angela Bassett) is settling into her new role as a detective, Buck (Oliver Stark) is adjusting to fatherhood after becoming Theo’s legal guardian, May (Corinne Massiah) is pursuing a nursing career, and Harry (Elijah M. Cooper) enters his second season as a firefighter. Minear describes the approach as building fresh ground rather than repeating familiar patterns, while still delivering the large-scale disaster sequences the franchise is known for.
9-1-1: Nashville, meanwhile, picks up three weeks after Season 1’s cliffhanger brawl between Blythe (Jessica Capshaw) and Don’s ex Dixie (LeAnn Rimes), with showrunner Rashad Raisani confirming the new season reveals the fallout from that fight before moving forward. Don’s near-infidelity with Dixie will have lasting consequences on his marriage, with Raisani promising it will “shake it in a pretty deep way.” The season also introduces Ryan Phillippe as Detective Rogue Kelly, a recent transplant from New York investigating a mysterious string of attacks mimicking the biblical plagues of Egypt, starting with a swarm of murder hornets and escalating into blood-flooded basements and boils. Raisani describes the season’s antagonist as a “nefarious, mysterious criminal” designed to give the show the same scale as its traditional disaster set pieces, just through a villain instead of a storm.
Both premieres arrive the same night as the Season 23 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy, giving ABC a three-show block to kick off the night. 9-1-1 Season 10 and 9-1-1: Nashville Season 2 both premiere October 15 at 8/7c on ABC, with next-day streaming on Hulu.
