In a move that underscores its growing success, ABC has announced the renewal of the hit drama series “9-1-1” for an eighth season. The decision comes amidst impressive viewership numbers and just ahead of the show’s monumental 100th episode.

Since transitioning from Fox to ABC for its seventh season, “9-1-1” has proven to be a ratings powerhouse for its new network. The Season 7 premiere, which aired in March, captured the attention of 11.76 million total viewers within the first week, including 4.93 million in live-plus-same-day Nielsen viewership. Notably, it became ABC’s highest-rated multiplatform telecast in nearly two years, particularly among the coveted adults 18-to-49 demographic.

The success doesn’t end with traditional viewership metrics. The show’s debut on ABC also set records on streaming platforms, with Hulu reporting its most-streamed day ever for “9-1-1.” This digital presence underscores the series’ broad appeal and engagement across various viewing mediums.

“9-1-1” has seamlessly integrated into ABC’s Thursday lineup alongside established hits like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19.” This strategic positioning has further solidified its standing as one of ABC’s most-watched current series across all platforms.

Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, the drama follows the lives of a group of first responders and often threads their personal journeys with multiple wild disasters-of-the-week taken straight from the headlines. Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Aisha Hinds, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Kenneth Choi and Gavin McHugh currently star on the ongoing drama.

As “9-1-1” gears up for its highly anticipated 100th episode, viewers can expect the same level of heart-pounding drama and expert storytelling that has defined the series.

The renewal of “9-1-1” aligns with ABC’s broader strategy to cultivate innovative and compelling content, further solidifying its position as a leading destination for premium television programming. As fans eagerly anticipate the next chapter in the series, the announcement reaffirms “9-1-1” as a cornerstone of ABC’s acclaimed lineup.
