Alexis Floyd to Join Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 as a Series Regular

Alexis Floyd is continuing her journey within the Shondaland universe. After her break out role in Shonda Rhimes’ Inventing Anna, Floyd will join season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy as a series regular.

Floyd will play a new surgical resident, Simone Griffin, at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Griffin is a funny, whip smart, high achiever with a complicated family dynamic. She grew up in Seattle, but never wanted to work at Grey Sloan because of a painful personal history with the hospital. This could be in reference to one of the show’s many tragedies, including a mass shooting, a Ferry crash, a flooding and two ambulance crashes. We are delighted by this Grey’s Anatomy update, as a new surgical resident means the hospital’s program is up and running again.

“Grey’s Anatomy, like all of Shonda’s canon, is a genre re-defining show that remains masterfully committed to diversity, relevancy and vulnerability,” Floyd said. “Joining the cast in its 19th season is an immeasurable honor, and quite simply, it’s gonna be wicked fun.”

At the end of season 18, Grey Sloan shut down their residency program to start fresh and rebuild it. The move sent Grey Sloan’s current surgical residents packing. Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy will premiere on ABC, Oct. 6 alongside its sister series Station 19.

Floyd’s credits include The Bold Type, The Good Fight and Dickinson.
