Kourtney George and Courtney Burrell lead the ALLBLK original about second chances, buried secrets, and Black love.
The trailer is here for Funny Thing About Love, a new HBCU romance film premiering exclusively on ALLBLK on Thursday, June 11.
Set against the backdrop of Atlanta’s fictional HBCU Hunter College, the film follows bestselling author Miles Morris, played by Burrell, who returns to his ten-year college reunion and walks straight back into the orbit of Alice Lewis, played by George, the woman who broke his heart a decade ago. When Miles releases a tell-all book inspired by their college romance days before the reunion, it exposes a long-buried secret that threatens every relationship Alice values, including the truth about a child Miles never knew existed. As old feelings resurface, the reunion becomes a battlefield of love triangles, family pressure, and second chances.
The cast also includes Rockmond Dunbar as Alice’ father Judge Charles Lewis, Jeff Logan as Alice’s estranged NFL star husband, Jessie Woo as Alice’s sharp best friend Mecca, Bobb’e J. Thompson as Miles’ hilarious best friend Rome, Rolonda Rochelle, Reece Odum, and Trina Braxton.
The film marks the first feature film leading role for Kourtney George, best known as “Hurt Bae” from the viral 2015 video that resonated with millions. Opposite her is Courtney Burrell, known for his work on HBO’s Insecure and Tyler Perry’s Family Funeral.
Directed by Tailiah Breon and written by Christel Gibson from a story by Kameron Bain, the film is produced by Kameron Bain through Bouldercrest Films alongside Errol Sadler, Ty Walker of Tycor International Film Company, and Durrann Brown.
Funny Thing About Love premieres Thursday, June 11 exclusively on ALLBLK.
