Garth Ennis keeps finding new ways into Hollywood. Years after The Boys became one of the platform’s biggest hits, Amazon MGM is now developing a film based on his horror noir comic Freddie the Fix, with One of Them Days director Lawrence Lamont set to direct.
The premise alone makes the pitch: a fixer for the supernatural. Freddie is a Black English problem solver whose clients aren’t actors or executives but vampires, werewolves, zombies, aliens, and the Boogeyman, and his specialty is making their messes, criminal, magical, or otherwise, quietly disappear. It’s Hollywood satire filtered through crime noir, with a monster movie running underneath.
Kalen Egan and Travis Sentell wrote the screenplay. Kimberly Steward and Alex Foster produce through K Period Media, joined by Kenya Barris for Khalabo Ink Society, while Ennis, Jeremy Allen, Lamont, Adam Glass, Michael Bogner, and David Stone executive produce.
This is the first screen adaptation to come out of Ninth Circle, the creator owned horror imprint at Image Comics that Ennis launched in December 2024 alongside Ram V, Marguerite Bennett, Joe Pruett, and Glass, with Steward on as lead investor. Freddie the Fix was the imprint’s debut title, an oversized, self-contained volume illustrated by Mike Perkins that sold out and drew strong reviews, setting the standard for what Ninth Circle would build around.
Lamont comes off the Sony comedy One of Them Days, which starred Keke Palmer and H.E.R. Egan and Sentell have Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams behind them and The Lunar Chronicles, due in 2028, ahead of them.
Barris and Khalabo Ink Society have a packed slate elsewhere too, including Teyana Taylor’s directorial debut Get Lite with Storm Reid, and a documentary on Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds.
