Amazon Prime Video Renews 'Cross' Series for Season 2 Ahead of Series Debut

Prime Video is doubling down on its commitment to the Alex Cross universe, renewing its upcoming series “Cross” for a second season even before the debut of its first season, as reported by Variety. The series, based on James Patterson’s acclaimed Alex Cross novels, according to sources Prime Video was impressed enough with what they have seen from the first season to greenlight the second and begin casting.

Led by Aldis Hodge in the role of Alex Cross, the detective and forensic psychologist, who’s uniquely capable of digging into the minds of killers and victims in order to identify and catch them. A doting father and family man, Cross is single-minded to the point of obsession when he hunts killers. He is desperate for love, but his wife’s murder has left him too damaged to receive it. ‘Cross’ aims to delve deeply into the intricate world of Patterson’s beloved character.

The first season’s cast includes Isaiah Mustafa, Ryan Eggold, Karen LeBlanc, Melody Hurd, Alona Tal, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Jennifer Wigmore, Samantha Walkes, Johnny Ray Gill, Eloise Mumford, Sharon Taylor, and Siobhan Murphy.

Despite not having an official premiere date for the first season, Prime Video’s decision to greenlight a second season highlights its confidence in the project’s potential to resonate with audiences. Joining the cast for the second season are Wes Chatham, Matthew Lillard, and Jeanine Mason.

Ben Watkins is both writing and executive producing the series and will also serve as showrunner. Additionally, Aldis Hodge is not only starring but also producing. The executive production team includes Sam Ernst, Jim Dunn, and Craig Siebels, along with Patterson, Bill Robinson, and Patrick Santa for James Patterson Entertainment, and David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Bill Bost for Skydance Television. The series is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television, known for their successful productions such as Prime Video’s “Reacher” and “Jack Ryan.”

“Cross” received a series order on Prime Video in October 2022 after more than two years in development, adding to the platform’s diverse lineup of engaging content. The character of Alex Cross, featured in 32 novels by Patterson, has previously been portrayed by Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry in film adaptations based on the book series.
