André 3000 and Peter Macon Join Netflix’s Live-Action ‘Scooby-Doo: Origins’

Netflix is bringing Scooby-Doo back to live-action with Scooby-Doo: Origins, currently filming in Atlanta for a 2027 global release, with André “3000” Benjamin and Peter Macon among the cast.

The series is a modern reimagining of the iconic franchise, following old friends Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp, where they get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder. Joined by the pragmatic Velma and the strange but handsome new kid Freddy, the group sets out to solve a case that threatens to expose all of their secrets. Rather than picking up where past adaptations left off, the series goes back to the beginning, exploring the origins of Mystery Inc. and how the gang first came together.

The full cast includes Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, alongside Benjamin, Macon, Paul Walter Hauser, Rusty Schwimmer, Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, Elysée Sanvillé, Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl, Pamela Mitchell, Ross Kimball, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Sauriyan Sapkota, Cathy Moriarty and Bruce McGill.

For more than 50 years, Scooby-Doo has been one of pop culture’s most enduring franchises, beginning with the original Hanna-Barbera animated series in 1969. The franchise made its live-action debut with the 2002 theatrical film starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini, which spawned a 2004 sequel. The new Netflix series marks the franchise’s second live-action adaptation and first as a series.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman for Berlanti Productions, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Adrienne Erickson for Midnight Radio, and Toby Haynes, who also directs the premiere episode. Warner Bros. Television produces.

Scooby-Doo: Origins premieres globally on Netflix in 2027.
