Angela Grovey Talks Krystal’s Big Pivot in ‘Reasonable Doubt’ Season 4 | INTERVIEW

The Stewart Firm is back in session. Reasonable Doubt returned for its fourth season with a three-episode premiere on October 6, and new episodes drop every Tuesday through the November 24 finale on Hulu and Disney+. Fans have been waiting on answers since the Season 3 finale left Jax Stewart’s fate uncertain, after Jax (Emayatzy Corinealdi) was on the receiving end of Monica’s loaded gun.

Season 4 picks up in the aftermath, as a brutal attack leaves Jax’s family and newly formed law firm shaken, and Jax’s most loyal client becomes the center of a growing media disaster that pushes the firm into a high-stakes fight for survival. The season also brings new faces, including Meagan Good and Durrell “Tank” Babbs as series regulars, with La La Anthony and Rutina Wesley joining the cast and Morris Chestnut returning.

At the heart of it all is Krystal Walters, played by Angela Grovey. For four seasons, Krystal has been the loyal, no-nonsense force keeping Jax’s world from falling apart, and the one person willing to tell Jax the truth, even when it might cost her job. But this season, Krystal is stepping into her own. After pursuing law school later in life, she’s now figuring out what kind of lawyer she wants to be, and that may mean charting a path that looks different from Jax’s.

For Grovey, Reasonable Doubt marked her first series-regular role after a career built largely on the stage. She made her Broadway debut in Leap of Faith, went on to Escape to Margaritaville, and most recently stepped into the role of Matron “Mama” Morton in Chicago on Broadway. On screen, she’s also known for playing Earla in Joyful Noise alongside Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton.

We sat down with Grovey to talk about Krystal’s evolution, why playing her made Grovey a better friend, the importance of seeing a woman in her 40s bravely start over, and how her theater background shapes her scenes with Tim Jo. She also reflected on working with Queen Latifah and the late Dolly Parton, shared her advice for actors still waiting on their big break, and issued a warning to fans: brace yourselves for episodes 7 and 10.
