AMC revealed the new title, trailer, and December 30 premiere date for Mayfair Witches Season 3 at New York Comic Con on Friday. Now titled Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches: Salem Coven, the season relocates the series from New Orleans and Scotland to Salem, Massachusetts, where showrunner Esta Spalding says the story reimagines the town’s 1693 witch trials around a twist: unlike the historical record, in which the accused were innocent, this version embeds real witches in Salem’s fabric from the start.
The season continues the AMC+ series’ adaptation of Anne Rice’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy, following Alexandra Daddario’s Rowan Fielding as she confronts a new coven while Julien Mayfair, played by Ted Levine, takes full possession of Cortland’s body, played by Harry Hamlin. Tongayi Chirisa returns as Ciprien Grieve, now leading the Talamasca’s New Orleans house while drawn into Salem’s deeper mysteries. Betsy Brandt joins as series regular Katherine Mayfair, with Eliza Scanlen introduced as an original character named Jessica and Michiel Huisman joining as a new romantic interest with a hidden secret.
The series sits within AMC’s Immortal Universe alongside The Vampire Lestat, and the panel confirmed the shared creative team is actively building connections across the franchise, including a Lestat-era track getting remixed into a Season 3 episode. That kind of cross-title world-building reflects a broader industry strategy of treating adapted literary universes as interconnected ecosystems rather than standalone series, a model that depends on audiences following multiple shows rather than one.
Spalding and Tom Schnauz serve as co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Mark Johnson, with the series created by Spalding and Michelle Ashford. Daddario has warned the season ends in dark territory, with the Mayfair family’s circumstances only worsening by the finale.
With the franchise’s writers reportedly sharing office space to coordinate crossovers across Rice’s universe, the next thing to watch is how far these connections extend beyond a single needle drop, and whether future seasons start crossing characters as well as music.
