Apple TV has released the trailer for the second season of Women in Blue (Las Azules), the acclaimed Spanish-language crime drama returning to the platform on Wednesday, August 12, with new episodes dropping weekly through September 30.
For those new to the series, Women in Blue is inspired by true events and follows four women who defy the ultraconservative norms of 1971 Mexico City to join the country’s first all-female police force, only to discover their squad is a publicity stunt designed to distract the public from a brutal serial killer known as the Undresser. Defying their male colleagues, María, Valentina, Gabina and Ángeles run an off-the-books investigation to catch the killer themselves. Season 1 concluded with the team saving Valentina from the killer and a haunting cliffhanger that set up the new season.
Season 2 picks up with María, played by Bárbara Mori, now promoted to lieutenant, torn between the rules she has sworn to uphold and a relentless pull toward the truth. When the body of a student activist is discovered, the Azules are pulled into an investigation that reaches back to Mexico’s brutal student massacre of 1968. Before they can make sense of what they have found, another body surfaces connected to that dark chapter of history, and someone appears to be delivering justice directly to the police’s door. As the team fights battles both inside and outside the precinct, buried truths rise to the surface and force an uncomfortable question: in a system plagued with corruption, what is the cost of fighting for your ideals?
The series stars Bárbara Mori alongside Natalia Téllez as Valentina, Amorita Rasgado as Gabina and Ximena Sariñana as Ángeles, with Miguel Rodarte, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Christian Tappan, Horacio García Rojas and Bruno Bichir also starring.
Created by International Emmy Award-winning showrunner Fernando Rovzar and Pablo Aramendi, Women in Blue is produced by Lemon Studios for Apple TV. Rovzar, Emmy Award nominee Wendy Riss, Alejandro Lozano, Erica Sánchez Su and International Emmy Award winner Billy Rovzar serve as executive producers.
Women in Blue Season 2 premieres August 12 on Apple TV.
