Netflix has released the first teaser trailer and a batch of new first-look images for Bass X Machina, the upcoming steampunk sci-fi Western from creator LeSean Thomas and Studio Mir, setting a November 2026 release on the streamer.
The visuals make a strong first impression. The steampunk aesthetic is dialed up across every frame, blending classic Wild West iconography with heavy steam-powered machinery. A striking close-up introduces Bass, weathered and battle-hardened in a wide-brimmed hat, high-collared coat and scarf, with falling snow adding a cinematic, somber tone. Other images reveal a massive mechanical bull with glowing red eyes, a high-octane action sequence showing Bass leaping through the air to take down a hulking armored robot against a shattered clock face backdrop, and a sweeping shot of a heavily armored flying locomotive suspended inside a grand glass-roofed station watched by awe-struck onlookers in western garb.
Inspired by the legendary real-life Deputy US Marshal Bass Reeves, the series is set in a lawless steampunk West overrun by brutal outlaws, machines and supernatural terrors, where a father is forced to become judge, jury and executioner, knowing that every act of justice meant to protect his family may ultimately cost him the very people he is fighting to save.
Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award nominee Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) leads the voice cast as Bass and serves as executive producer alongside Thomas, Jennifer Wiley-Moxley and Chad Handley. Janelle Monae voices Glory, Tati Gabrielle voices Dana, Cree Summer voices Ahni, Chaske Spencer voices Lighthorse, Currie Graham voices Rivenbark and Starletta DuPois voices Etta. Original music is composed by Roman GianArthur and Nate Wonder of Wondaland. Animation is handled by Studio Mir, the South Korean powerhouse behind The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender and Marvel’s X-Men ’97.
The teaser dropped as part of a larger Netflix animation slate announcement at AnimeNYC, which also brought a launch date and new teaser for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 (October 20, 2026), a January 2027 premiere date and epic conclusion announcement for Blue Eye Samurai Seasons 2 and 3, an official trailer for LEGO One Piece, a character trailer for Sakamoto Days Season 2, key art for The One Piece and a teaser for Fool Night with English dub cast Adam McArthur and Olivia Liang.
Bass X Machina premieres on Netflix in November 2026.
