Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter to Portray Mother-Daughter in ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ Prequel [TRAILER]

Disney has set the stage for a majestic return to the African Pride Lands with the upcoming prequel to its 2019 blockbuster, “The Lion King.” Titled “Mufasa: The Lion King,” this new film promises to delve deep into the origins of the iconic lion king himself, accompanied by a star-studded cast including real-life royalty Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy Carter.

Directed by Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”), the teaser for “Mufasa: The Lion King” was unveiled on Monday, April 29, offering a breathtaking glimpse into the untold story of Mufasa and the rich world of the African savanna.

The trailer introduces viewers to a young Mufasa, voiced by Aaron Pierre, as he navigates the vast savanna, encountering pivotal figures such as Scar (voiced by Kelvin Harrison Jr.) and Rafiki (voiced by John Kani). Beyoncé reprises her role as Nala, while Blue Ivy makes her debut as Kiara, the daughter of Simba (voiced by Donald Glover) and Nala.

“Simba, having become king of the Pride Lands, is determined for his cub to follow in his paw prints while the origins of his late father Mufasa are explored,” reads the official synopsis, hinting at a story filled with adventure, legacy, and the bonds of family.

Many members of the 2019 voice cast are returning, including John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner as Timon. The 2019 film was directed by Jon Favreau from a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson, who is returning to write “Mufasa.”

New cast members include Tiffany Boone as Sarabi; Kagiso Lediga as Young Rafiki; Preston Nyman as Zazu; Mads Mikkelsen as Kiros, a formidable lion with big plans for his pride; Thandiwe Newton as Taka’s mother, Eshe; Lennie James as Taka’s father, Obasi; Anika Noni Rose as Mufasa’s mother, Afia; and Keith David as Mufasa’s father, Masego.

Additional casting includes Braelyn Rankins, Theo Somolu, Folake Olowofoyeku, Joanna Jones, Thuso Mbedu, Sheila Atim, Abdul Salis and Dominique Jennings.

Notably, “Mufasa: The Lion King” will feature original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Beau Black, Ford Riley, the incredible music team on ‘The Lion Guard,’ and so many musical contributors over the years. ‘The Lion King’ has an incredible musical legacy with music from some of the greatest songwriters around, and I’m humbled and proud to be a part of it,” Miranda said in a statement. “It’s been a joy working alongside Barry Jenkins to bring Mufasa’s story to life, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience this film in theaters.”

The musical genius behind “Hamilton” joins forces with renowned composers Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams, and Nicholas Britell to craft a soundtrack that honors the legacy of the beloved franchise.

With its blend of live-action filmmaking techniques and cutting-edge CGI, “Mufasa: The Lion King” promises to transport audiences back to the heart of the Pride Lands, inviting them to witness the epic journey of a lion who would change the course of history.
