Netflix officially announced that the dystopian anthology series “Black Mirror” is returning for its seventh season. Set to premiere in 2025, the announcement was made during the Next on Netflix event at London’s Picturehouse Central cinema.

Among the highlights of the announcement is that one of the season’s six episodes will be a sequel to the critically acclaimed “USS Callister” from season 4. The teaser for the new season dropped a tantalizing hint: “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.”

Jesse Plemons starred as Robert Daly, a troubled programmer who exacts revenge on his coworkers by trapping digital clones of them in a virtual reality space adventure.

The original episode, co-written by series creator Charlie Brooker and William Bridges, was hailed for its dark satire and poignant exploration of themes like technological obsession and the abuse of power. Directed by Toby Haynes, it also starred Jimmi Simpson, Michaela Coel, and Cristin Milioti.

“USS Callister” was not only a critical success but also a fan favorite, earning accolades and awards, including four Primetime Emmy Awards. Its return will delve deeper into the aftermath of Daly’s demise, potentially exploring new territory with Milioti’s character and the rest of the crew navigating uncharted waters without their tyrannical captain.

Created by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, “Black Mirror” has earned a reputation for its thought-provoking narratives exploring the dark side of modern technology and society. Each episode presents a standalone story set in a near-future world, often with unsettling parallels to our own reality.

Fans can look forward to a good long marathon when Season 7 drops. It will consist of six episodes, tying Seasons 3 and 4 as having the most episodes of the series. While it’s unknown who will make an appearance in Black Mirror season 7, past stars include Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Damson Idris, Nicole Beharie, and much more.

Aside from the teaser, Netflix hasn’t released more information about Black Mirror’s return. However, based on previous seasons, we can expect another batch of twisted, Charlie Brooker-written stories.
