Brian Tyree Henry is lacing up for his next major role.
The Oscar-nominated actor is set to star in Running, a new sports drama from director Gavin O’Connor (The Way Back, Warrior), joining previously announced co-star Spike Fearn. The project hails from Apple Studios.
Based on an original story by O’Connor and Bill Dubuque (Ozark, The Accountant), Running centers on a homeless high school track prodigy chasing greatness while trying to outrun his past and find a sense of family. Character details for Henry remain under wraps.
The film will be produced by Makeready in partnership with Nike—a fitting collaborator for a story rooted in track and athletic ambition.
Henry continues to build an impressive run with Apple, following his acclaimed performances in Causeway and the series Dope Thief, both of which earned him major awards recognition, including an Academy Award nomination and an Emmy nod.
Best known for his standout role in Atlanta, Henry’s slate remains stacked. He’s set to executive produce and star in Netflix’s upcoming animated series Bass X Machina, and will appear opposite Julia Roberts in the Warner Bros. thriller Panic Carefully.
With Running, Henry steps into another emotionally grounded, character-driven story—this time set against the high-stakes world of competitive track.
