Fans of the hit ABC medical drama, The Good Doctor, will be excited to hear that original cast member Chuku Modu is set to return to the show after a five-year absence. Modu will reprise his role as surgical resident Dr. Jared Kalu in the March 6 episode, titled “Old Friends.”
In Season 1, Modu’s character was a breakout star who developed a close relationship with fellow resident Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore). However, he got into trouble for punching a doctor who had sexually harassed his girlfriend and was subsequently fired. After using legal blackmail to secure his reinstatement, he never fully gained the trust of his bosses and eventually broke up with Claire before leaving for a surgeon job in Colorado.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have Chuku rejoin The Good Doctor family, and for the audience to learn what Dr. Kalu has been up to since he left St. Bon’s,” said co-showrunner and executive producer Liz Friedman.
Modu’s return marks the latest in a series of guest appearances by original cast members who have left the show. Both Antonia Thomas (who played resident Claire Browne) and Beau Garrett (who played hospital lawyer Jessica Preston) have made comebacks.
In the upcoming episode, Dr. Park (played by Will Yun Lee) is faced with treating the man his wife had an affair with, while Dr. Kalu returns to the hospital with his billionaire patient.
The Good Doctor, produced by ABC Signature and Sony Pictures Television Series, stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, and Fiona Gubelmann as Dr. Morgan Reznick, among others. The show is executive produced by David Shore and Liz Friedman, along with a team of other producers.

Modu has been busy since his departure from The Good Doctor, appearing in several other popular TV shows and movies. He was a series regular in the final season of The 100 and appeared in Captain Marvel. Most recently, he starred in The Origin and made an appearance in the Amazon series The Peripheral.
