FX’s upcoming limited series, “Clipped,” is set to unveil the scandalous tale of NBA owner Donald Sterling’s racist remarks, previously captured on a globally heard tape. Adapted from the renowned ESPN 30 for 30 podcast, “The Sterling Affairs,” this series navigates the intersection of a dysfunctional basketball organization and an even more tumultuous marriage, examining the impact of the incriminating tape on a cast of characters striving for victory against the backdrop of the league’s most beleaguered team.

Scheduled to premiere on June 4, 2024, “Clipped” will kick off with two initial episodes on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+, followed by subsequent releases every Tuesday. The release date for Latin America on Star+ and other territories on Disney+ is still pending.

Focusing on Coach Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne), who assumes leadership of the LA Clippers in 2013, the series unfolds against the promise of a championship with a roster boasting prominent personalities. However, the team’s owner, Donald Sterling (Ed O’Neill), proves to be a prominent obstacle due to his frugality, erratic behavior, and bullying tendencies. Doc Rivers embarks on a personal quest to minimize Sterling’s influence in the pursuit of a title.

A compelling courtside power struggle ensues between Sterling’s ambitious personal assistant, V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman), and his wife and business partner of six decades, Shelly (Jacki Weaver). “Clipped” captures the essence of an Obama-era narrative of racial reckoning, intricately woven into the fabric of meme culture, exploring power dynamics in the internet age. As V. and the Sterlings grapple with the reality of power, Rivers and his players question whether expelling one bad apple can truly usher in the transformative change celebrated by the media.

The ensemble cast features Kelly AuCoin, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Rich Sommers, Corbin Bernsen, Clifton Davis, and Harriet Sansom Harris. AuCoin as Sterling’s right-hand Andy Roeser, Nicholson as Chris Paul, Sommers as the Clippers’ PR man Seth Burton, Bernsen as Pierce O’Donnell, Davis as NBA great Elgin Baylor and Sansom Harris as “Justine.”

Executive producers, including Gina Welch, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Zanne Devine, Ramona Shelburne, and Kevin Bray, contribute to shaping this FX Production, promising an unfiltered portrayal of societal challenges and transformative change in the spotlight of media scrutiny.
