Comedian Chris “CP” Powell is taking center stage. BET has announced that Sunday After Six, Powell’s acclaimed 90-minute stand-up special, arrives on the network Tuesday, September 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Currently starring in Diarra from Detroit and serving as host of the revived ComicView: Rooftop Series, Powell turns the lens on everyday life in Sunday After Six, diving into fatherhood, relationships, love, family and the wild situations you couldn’t make up if you tried. Nothing is off-limits.
The special takes its name from a feeling Powell knows well. “I always dreaded six o’clock every Sunday because the weekend was ending and the grind of school, work, whatever, was starting the next day,” Powell said. “Sunday After Six is meant for those moments where we need a little relief from the most stressful time of the week, regardless of what day it is.”
One of stand-up’s fastest-rising voices, Powell was named to Vulture’s The Comedians You Should and Will Know in 2025, and Sunday After Six landed on the Los Angeles Times’ list of The 33 Best Comedy Specials of 2025. His work spans Detroiters, Love Life, How to Die Alone and The Hospital.
“CP finds the funny in the stuff we all live through, and Sunday After Six is him at his best,” said Aisha Summers-Burke, EVP and Head of Creative at BET Studios. “This is the kind of storytelling BET exists to champion.”
Sunday After Six is executive produced by Powell, Kevin Parker, Itay Reiss, Peter Principato and Jon Croel.
