Paramount+ has quietly closed the book on Crutch, the Tracy Morgan-led spinoff of CBS’s The Neighborhood, after a single season. The eight-episode series, which debuted on the streamer November 3, 2025, will not return for a second season, with cast options having expired at the end of last year.
Set in the world of The Neighborhood, Crutch followed Francois “Frank” Crutchfield, a brash but beloved Harlem shop owner whose world is turned upside down when his highbrow son and free-spirited daughter move back into the family home. The series earned a rare 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Jermaine Fowler, Kecia Lewis, Adrianna Mitchell, Adrian Martinez, Braxton Paul and Finn Maloney co-starred alongside Morgan.
The cancellation comes as little surprise. Following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount and its streaming arm, the streamer’s new leadership made clear that multi-camera comedies would not be a programming priority given CBS’s strength in the genre and the availability of its network sitcoms on Paramount+ the next day. Crutch was the last remaining original comedy on the platform, and no new comedy orders have been made since.
Morgan’s trajectory also played a role. He was cast in Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s NBC comedy The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins in March 2025, initially in second position to Crutch. By the time the NBC series was renewed for Season 2 in May 2026, Morgan’s Crutch option had lapsed and he was fully committed to the NBC show.
Created by Owen Smith, who also served as showrunner and executive producer, Crutch was executive produced by Cedric the Entertainer, Eric C. Rhone, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling, Mike Mariano and Morgan. The series was produced by CBS Studios.
