Damson Idris Reunites With Apple to Star In and Produce Action Thriller ‘Sacrament’

Apple Original Films is developing Sacrament, a new feature starring and produced by Damson Idris, with Jonathan Levine attached to direct, Deadline reports exclusively. The project remains in early development, with plans to build the film as a starring vehicle for Idris following the global success of F1.

Written by Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson, Sacrament follows two Chicago cops-turned-contractors who track a runaway thief to a remote, fortified township in Sacrament, Utah, a routine job that escalates into a battle where the two are outnumbered, outgunned, and forced to become better partners. Peter Chernin and David Ready will produce for Chernin Entertainment, which is developing the film through its first-look deal with Apple. Idris produces through his Keep Quiet Productions banner, with Levine producing alongside Gillian Bohrer through their company MegaMix.

F1 grossed $634 million worldwide and earned multiple Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, prompting both Idris and Apple to look for another project together; Chernin ultimately brought the script to Idris directly. The film also reunites Idris with Mileti and Wilson, who previously worked with him on Snowfall.

Idris is currently balancing an unusually full slate, filming Miles & Juliette, Bill Pohlad’s film in which he plays Miles Davis, alongside the Netflix series The Lords’ Day, which he also executive produces, and the upcoming Children of Blood and Bone, in which he plays Prince Inan. Levine, meanwhile, has built significant momentum around his sports drama Mr. Irrelevant, premiering Christmas Day, buzz strong enough that Tom Cruise personally requested a screening and subsequently tapped Levine to direct his Days of Thunder sequel for Paramount.

Sacrament adds to a growing slate of Apple and Chernin Entertainment collaborations, joining One Month Mark, Last Flight Out, and Five Secrets, alongside Chernin’s existing television work with Apple on Chief of War, See, Truth Be Told, and The War for Football.

For Idris, Sacrament arrives as his fourth major starring role to surface this year alone, a pace that places him squarely among the industry’s most in-demand leads heading into 2027.
