Darryl M. Bell and Kadeem Hardison, original stars of A Different World who also reprise their roles in Netflix’s revival, are launching a weekly rewatch podcast called A Different World View with Darryl & Kadeem. The show premieres Thursday, October 15, with new episodes dropping every Thursday from iHeartMedia and Charlamagne Tha God’s Black Effect Podcast Network.
Hardison played Dwayne Wayne on the original series, while Bell played Ron Johnson Jr. The two also appeared together in Spike Lee’s School Daze and have toured HBCUs together as part of an A Different World reunion tour in recent years. The podcast will have the pair rewatching the original series episode by episode, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and unpacking why the show has continued to resonate nearly four decades later, while also welcoming familiar faces from the original cast and the new Netflix sequel series. Debbie Allen, the original series’ producer and director, has been named the podcast’s first guest.
For a franchise now carrying both nostalgic and active cultural weight, with the Netflix revival already renewed for a second season after a strong debut, this podcast gives two of the original show’s stars a direct hand in shaping how that legacy gets discussed going forward, rather than leaving that conversation entirely to critics, clip accounts, or the new series alone.
Bell said in a statement that he and Hardison had wanted to do this for over 25 years, calling the timing right and praising the partnership with Charlamagne Tha God’s team. Hardison added that he’s “been talking to this guy for 40 years” and joked that listeners are finally getting to see what he’s “been dealing with.” Dollie S. Bishop, president of the Black Effect Podcast Network, said the show gives the two stars a platform to share stories fans have never heard while celebrating the series with both the generation that grew up on it and newer viewers discovering it through the Netflix revival.
A Different World View with Darryl & Kadeem is available on the iHeartRadio app and all major podcast platforms starting October 15.
