Derek Luke has joined the star-studded cast of “Michael,” the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua for Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International. This biopic is set to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, and promises an in-depth look at the life and career of the legendary pop icon.

Jaafar Jackson, nephew of Michael Jackson, is making his screen debut as he takes on the role of his iconic uncle. Meanwhile, nine-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi will portray Michael during his early Jackson 5 days, adding a youthful energy to the film. Produced by Graham King of GK Films and written by John Logan, “Michael” aims to chronicle Jackson’s musical journey from his early days with the Jackson 5 to his groundbreaking solo hits like “Thriller” and “Billie Jean.”

Derek Luke’s role in “Michael” is none other than famed attorney Johnnie Cochran, who represented Jackson during a 1993 child molestation case that was settled out of court.

Also starring in the feature are previously cast Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, and Juliano Krue Valdi, among others, each playing key roles that contribute to the rich tapestry of Jackson’s life story.

The film is not just about Jackson’s successes but also delves into the complexities of his life, including his public and private struggles, the media scrutiny he faced, and his undeniable creative genius. The ensemble cast, which includes actors like Larenz Tate, Kat Graham, Jessica Sula, Liv Symone, Kendrick Sampson, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, and Kevin Shinick.
