Five months after Lionsgate opened its fan casting call to the public, one aspiring actor’s dream just became reality. Devon Singletary, a Florida-based actor and filmmaker, has been selected to appear in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, arriving in theaters November 20, 2026.
The announcement was shared via The Hunger Games official Instagram page, featuring Singletary’s heartfelt reaction to learning he’d landed the role.
“I’m blown away,” he said in the video. “I’m really just speechless. I’m super excited.”
In the clip, he’s greeted by cast members McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak, and Joseph Zada, who revealed that he will play Blair — a close friend of Haymitch Abernathy and Burdock Everdeen (Katniss’ father) in the upcoming prequel. Later in the video, Singletary is seen arriving on set and standing before his trailer for the first time.
“I love the Sunrise on the Reaping book,” he added. “Being selected into The Hunger Games is a great honor.”
The win follows Lionsgate’s May announcement inviting fans to submit auditions — acting out a favorite scene, singing, or improvising for a chance to join the franchise. Singletary’s selection marks the first time a fan has joined The Hunger Games cast through an open call.
Returning to Panem
Directed by Francis Lawrence, who has helmed every installment since Catching Fire, Sunrise on the Reaping revisits Panem nearly 25 years before Katniss Everdeen’s story. The prequel begins on the morning of the 50th Hunger Games — the Second Quarter Quell — when a young Haymitch Abernathy is chosen to enter the arena.
