‘Diarra From Detroit’ Season 2 Gets July Premiere Date on Paramount+

Binge-Worthy Series: 28 New TV Shows to Not Sleep On

BlackFilmandTV.com has learned the hit comedic drama returns July 29, exclusively on Paramount+

BlackFilmandTV.com has learned that Diarra From Detroit, the critically embraced comedic drama that became one of BET’s most celebrated originals, has officially locked in a July 29 premiere date on Paramount+.

Created by, executive produced by, written by, and starring Diarra Kilpatrick, the series has built a fiercely loyal following since its debut, and the move to Paramount+ signals a bigger platform for a show that has always deserved one.

Season 1 followed Diarra, a divorcing Detroit schoolteacher who refuses to believe she has been ghosted by her Tinder rebound. What begins as romantic determination quickly unravels into a decades-old mystery buried in Detroit’s underworld, pulling her friends, co-workers and lovers into the mess along the way.

Returning cast members Bryan Terrell Clark, DomiNque Perry, Shannon Wallace and Jon Chaffin are all back for the sophomore run.

Shoniqua Shandai and Dave Z Martin join for the second season. Shandai comes aboard as Raqueeba, Diarra’s sharp-tongued and opinionated cousin, while Martin plays Booker, a street-smart criminal whose world collides with Diarra’s in unexpected ways.

We previously sat down with returning star Shannon Wallace, who plays Chris, and he could barely contain his excitement about what the new season delivers. “I didn’t think it could get better, but it is better,” he told us flatly. “That girl is a genius.”

Wallace revealed that the creative team gave him considerably more room to develop Chris this time around. “There were so many things about Chris that were unexplored, and so many questions left unanswered in Season 1. They really let me play, and I’m very proud of what I specifically put on screen.”

When Diarra From Detroit premiered in March 2024, its impact was immediate. The show ranked as the No. 1 new cable series among Black viewers year-to-date and placed second overall among scripted cable shows with Black audiences aged 18 to 49, according to Nielsen, trailing only Tyler Perry’s Sistas on BET. For a debut season, those numbers were a statement.

Unapologetically Black, consistently funny, emotionally grounded and narratively unpredictable, Diarra From Detroit has carved out a lane entirely its own. Season 2 arrives July 29 on Paramount+.

Diarra From Detroit is produced by BET Studios and Khalabo Ink Society, and executive produced by Kilpatrick alongside Kenya Barris and Miles Orion Feldsott.
