Angela Bassett Boards ‘Doctor Odyssey’ in Their First-Ever ‘9-1-1’ Crossover

Angela Bassett’s Athena Grant is setting sail once again—this time, straight into a high-stakes mystery aboard ABC’s Doctor Odyssey. The 9-1-1 sergeant, who barely survived a cruise disaster at the start of Season 7, finds herself back at sea in a special crossover episode airing March 20.

This time, Athena boards The Odyssey during Casino Week, but her trip is anything but a vacation. According to the episode logline, she “suspects two passengers are targeting the ship’s vault. Enlisting the help of Dr. Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson), Athena raises the stakes in a dangerous game where not everyone will end up with a winning hand.”

The crossover brings together the ensemble casts of both shows. 9-1-1, now in its eighth season, stars Angela Bassett as LAPD Sergeant Athena Grant, Peter Krause as Captain Bobby Nash, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley, Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley, Aisha Hinds as Hen Wilson, Kenneth Choi as Chimney Han, Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz, and Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz.

Meanwhile, Doctor Odyssey—ABC’s sleek medical drama set aboard a luxury cruise ship—features Joshua Jackson as Dr. Max Bankman, Phillipa Soo as Dr. Mika Walters, Sean Teale as Dr. Leo Savoy, and Don Johnson as Captain Ted Lassiter. Since its premiere last fall, the show has been making waves with its mix of high-stakes medicine, drama, and the occasional shark-infested waters.

The crossover comes at a time when 9-1-1 continues to grow beyond its Los Angeles roots. ABC recently announced an additional spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville, set to debut in the 2025-26 season. While details remain under wraps, the new series will follow first responders in the music capital, joining the legacy of the original 9-1-1 and its previous spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star.

This also isn’t the only major crossover ABC has staged this season. Abbott Elementary recently surprised audiences with a crossover featuring It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, proving that unexpected TV matchups can be just as entertaining as they are unpredictable. Now, 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey are getting in on the action, blending crime, drama, and high-stakes medicine into one thrilling event.

Both 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey return March 6, with the crossover episode airing March 20 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
