Donald Glover Reveals Trailer for Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Bando Stone & The New World’

Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, premiered the trailer for his new movie, ‘Bando Stone & The New World’. The trailer first debuted on June 27 during an IMAX screening of ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’, featuring Lupita Nyong’o and then last night (Jun 30) Glover premiered it at the 2024 BET Awards.

The plot follows singer Bando Stone as he awakens to a post-apocalyptic world, thinking he is alone until he meets other survivors. Together, they face various threats, including prehistoric creatures and alien-like beings. The trailer poses the question, “What are you when the world ends?” and mixes elements of comedy and sci-fi.

The two-minute trailer opens with Glover’s character, Bando Stone, aimlessly wandering through deserted locations, including a post office and a convenience store. Wearing a robe and slippers, Stone appears disoriented in this post-apocalyptic setting. The eerie quiet is shattered when he encounters a woman, played by Jessica Allain, who greets him with a shotgun aimed at his face.

“Who are you?” she demands. Stone attempts to jog her memory by listing his hit songs, but she remains unfazed. “Alright, you don’t know who I am, that’s fine,” he says as she cocks the gun. Despite the tense beginning, the trailer hints at an unlikely partnership as they navigate this new world together.

During the BET Awards, Glover also seized the spotlight not only to present the award for Album of the Year to Killer Mike but also to address the audience with a candid speech. He expressed his frustration with the lack of BET accolades in his career, despite his extensive contributions to entertainment.

“I’m really excited to be here but I wanted to get some things off my chest first,” Glover remarked. “It’s the Black Entertainment Television Awards. How much more entertaining do I have to be? I have more Grammys than Will Smith, but I have the same number of BET awards as Sam Smith. Does that make sense?”

Produced by RCA and Glover’s production company, Gilga, the film stars Glover and Allain, known for her roles in ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, ‘Fear’, and ‘Thriller’.

‘Bando Stone & The New World’ is expected to release exclusively in IMAX theaters this summer, though the exact date has not been announced. The film’s soundtrack, which Glover has indicated will be his final album as Childish Gambino, features the lead single “Lithonia,” set to drop on July 2.
