Apple TV+ Unveils First Look + Premiere Date For Crime Drama ‘Dope Thief’

Apple TV+ has released the first images for its upcoming eight-episode crime drama Dope Thief, set to premiere on Friday, March 14, 2025. Created by Peter Craig, known for his work on The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick, the series stars Brian Tyree Henry, who also serves as an executive producer.

Based on Dennis Tafoya’s novel of the same name, Dope Thief follows two longtime friends from Philadelphia whose lives spiral out of control after posing as DEA agents to rob a secluded house. What starts as a petty scheme quickly unravels into a high-stakes operation when they stumble upon one of the largest hidden narcotics corridors on the East Coast. The drama explores themes of loyalty, survival, and the consequences of a life of crime.

The series features a powerhouse ensemble cast, including Wagner Moura, Nesta Cooper, Ving Rhames, Amir Arison, Marin Ireland, and Kate Mulgrew.

Dope Thief is a production of Apple Studios and Scott Free Productions, the latter led by legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott. Scott, who is also an executive producer, directed the pilot episode. This marks Craig’s directorial debut; he also penned all eight episodes of the series.

Executive producers include Craig, Scott, Brian Tyree Henry, Richard Heus, Jordan Sheehan, Clayton Krueger, and Jennifer Wiley-Moxley.

Henry, known for his Emmy-nominated role as Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles in Atlanta, continues to build his impressive portfolio, which includes Causeway, Bullet Train, and the Spider-Verse films. His involvement in Dope Thief marks a reunion with Apple, following his Oscar nomination for Causeway.

Dope Thief will debut with its first two episodes on March 14, 2025, with subsequent episodes released weekly on fridays through april 25. Viewers can expect a gripping blend of suspense and action as the series delves into the perilous consequences of its characters’ choices.
