Peacock unveiled the official teaser and premiere date for “Dr. Death,” season 2 led by Edgar Ramírez and Mandy Moore.
Ashley Madekwe, Luke Kirby, and Gustaf Hammarsten also star in the series with Judy Reyes, Rita Volk, Judy Reyes, Jack Davenport, Annika Boras, and Sandra Andreis recurring. Mark your calendars for Thursday, December 21st, because that’s when all eight episodes will hit Peacock.
Season 2 is diving into the “Miracle Man” season of the popular Wondery podcast. It’s all about Paolo Macchiarini, portrayed by Ramírez, a superstar celebrity surgeon who gained worldwide fame for performing the very first synthetic organ transplant. But, when investigative journalist Benita Alexander (played by Moore) comes knocking for a story, things get complex. The line between personal and professional starts to blur, and their lives take unexpected turns. As the story unfolds, you’ll discover just how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, and halfway across the globe, a group of doctors stumble upon shocking revelations that cast doubt on everything about Paolo Macchiarini.
Ashley Michel Hoban, the showrunner, executive producer, and writer for “Dr. Death,” commented on the unique nature of anthology series, emphasizing the exploration of systemic failures on a global scale in this season. The narrative dives deep into a story that, while distinct, resonates with the universal human experience of illness. Hoban underlines the importance of trust and truth, as these themes connect the two seemingly unrelated stories in this season. It’s about individuals standing up against powerful forces and making choices that ripple out into the world, empowering those who have been silenced.
Other executive producers for “Dr. Death” include Patrick Macmanus, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Taylor Latham, Aaron Hart, Hernan Lopez, and Marshall Lewy. Jennifer Morrison will direct episodes 1-4 with Laura Belsey directing the final three episodes.
“Dr. Death” is brought to you by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.
In addition to the new season, Peacock is set to release a companion documentary titled “Dr. Death: Cutthroat Conman” on the same day, December 21st. It delves into the rise and fall of Paolo Macchiarini and uncovers his international web of deceit that spanned decades. The documentary’s executive producers are Mary Robertson, Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman, and Adam Ciralsky, with John Pappas as co-executive producer and director.
