Ellis Hobbs IV Rounds Out the Cast of Way of the Warrior Kid, Apple Original Films’ Youth Empowerment Tale

Way of the Warrior Kid

Ellis Hobbs IV joins the cast of Way of the Warrior Kid, the youth empowerment film based on the novel by Jocko Willink. Arlan Ruf is also set to appear in the project.

This marks the first significant film role for both Hobbs and Ruf, who, along with Jude Hill, Levi McConaughey, and Ava Torres, portray some of the titular warrior kids. Previously announced cast members include Chris Pratt and Linda Cardellini, with the film produced by Skydance Media.

Directed by McG from a script by Will Staples, Way of the Warrior Kid follows a self-doubting boy, Marc (Hill), who struggles with bullying and can’t complete a single pull-up. His life takes a turn when his uncle Jake (Pratt), an elite Navy SEAL, moves in for rehab after being injured on a mission. Discovering Marc’s struggles academically, socially, and physically, Jake embarks on a mission of his own: using his SEAL Team training over the summer to help his nephew find his inner warrior.

Produced through a first-look partnership between Apple and Skydance, the film’s producers include Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, alongside McG and Mary Viola for Wonderland Sound, and Pratt for Indivisible Productions. Additional producers include Ben Everard for Everard Entertainment and Willink.

Recently, Hobbs has appeared in Lee Daniels’ Netflix exorcism film The Deliverance and Angel Studios’ Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot. He has also been seen on Paramount+’s The Game, The CW’s Legacies, and Showtime’s The First Lady alongside Viola Davis. Hobbs is represented by Play Management and Forward Talent.
