Ernie Hudson is bringing his signature gravitas to Boston Blue, the anticipated spinoff of CBS’ long-running procedural Blue Bloods.
He joins a cast led by Donnie Wahlberg, reprising his role as Detective Danny Reagan, and Sonequa Martin-Green, who stars as Detective Lena Silver. Together, they’ll navigate crime in Boston—and the complexities of family, faith, and justice.
In Boston Blue, Danny Reagan transfers from the NYPD to the Boston PD, where he’s partnered with Lena Silver—a third-generation cop whose family is deeply entrenched in the city’s justice system. Policing runs in the Silver bloodline, and so does the pressure to live up to that legacy.
Hudson has been cast as Reverend Peters, the spiritual and emotional anchor of the Silver family. A beloved leader at one of Boston’s most historic Black Baptist churches, Reverend Peters serves as both a moral compass and community pillar in a city—and family—wrestling with duty, legacy, and accountability.
He’s the father of Boston’s District Attorney Mae Silver and grandfather to three members of the Boston PD: Detective Lena Silver, Superintendent Ashley Silver, and rookie officer Isaac Silver. Known for his compassion and commanding calm, Reverend Peters is just as comfortable navigating Sunday service as he is managing the complex dynamics of a family tied to the law.
The series is written and executive produced by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis (The Blacklist), with Anthony Hemingway (The Wire, Power, Genius: Aretha) directing and executive producing the pilot. Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg also serve as executive producers. Boston Blue will premiere this fall in the Friday 10 PM slot—currently home to Blue Bloods—officially expanding the franchise’s universe.
Hudson is best known for his iconic role as Winston in the Ghostbusters franchise, most recently reprising the role in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. On the small screen, he led the BET+ family crime drama The Family Business. He is represented by Zero Gravity Management and Independent Artist Group.
