Essence Atkins, Vaughn W. Hebron, Melissa Ponzio Join 'Reasonable Doubt' Season 2

As the second season of Onyx Collective’s “Reasonable Doubt” gears up for its August 22 premiere, new cast members Essence Atkins, Melissa Ponzio, and Vaughn W. Hebron are set to bring fresh dynamics to the gripping legal drama.

Created and written by Raamla Mohamed, Reasonable Doubt follows Jax, played by Emayatzy Corinealdi, as she navigates a challenging murder case, all while dealing with personal struggles like a failing marriage and motherhood. The show also stars McKinley Freeman, Tim Jo, Angela Grovey, Aderinsola Olabode, and Thaddeus J. Mixson.

In the upcoming season, Jax Stewart attempts to rebuild her life following a turbulent trial and a dangerous affair. Her plans are disrupted when her close friend Shanelle (Shannon Kane) confesses to killing her husband, JT, in self-defense. As Jax defends Shanelle, she faces an unyielding prosecutor and the pressures of the most significant case of her career, while also trying to salvage her marriage and personal well-being.

Essence Atkins (“First Wives Club”) joins the series as Dr. Brandy Michaels, an expert on domestic violence whose testimony promises to be pivotal in the courtroom. Atkins, known for her versatile performances, adds depth to the ensemble with her portrayal of a character navigating the complexities of justice and personal morality.

Melissa Ponzio (“Teen Wolf”, “The Big Door Prize”) steps into the role of Lucy Wargo, a newly arrived District Attorney from Las Vegas. Ponzio’s character is described as by-the-book and fiercely ambitious, setting the stage for intense legal confrontations and moral dilemmas as she clashes with Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi) and her defense team.

Vaughn W. Hebron (“The Oval”, “The Game”) brings his charisma to the series as Adrian Hunter, an NFL player and mentee of the late JT. Hebron’s character offers insights into JT’s legacy and a fresh perspective on loyalty and justice within the narrative.

The addition of Atkins, Ponzio, and Hebron, Morris Chestnut and Kandi Burruss have also been added to the second season.

The second season of “Reasonable Doubt” continues to be helmed by creator and executive producer Raamla Mohamed (“Scandal”), alongside executive producers Kerry Washington (“Scandal”, “Little Fires Everywhere”), Pilar Savone (Simpson Street), Larry Wilmore (Wilmore Films), and Anton Cropper (“Suits”, “Black-ish”). The series is produced by ABC Signature, a division of Disney Television Studios.

Stay tuned for more updates and exclusive behind-the-scenes insights as “Reasonable Doubt” returns with a double-episode premiere, streaming exclusively on Hulu starting August 22.
