Comic-Con 2024 was abuzz as attendees got an exclusive first look at “Everybody Still Hates Chris,” the animated reboot of the beloved 2000s comedy. Set to premiere later this year on Comedy Central and stream on Paramount+, the new series is set to revive the charm and humor of its live-action predecessor.
The original “Everybody Hates Chris” offered a comedic take on Chris Rock’s childhood, narrated by Rock himself, with Tyler James Williams playing young Chris. Although Williams won’t be returning for the animated series, fans can expect Rock to reprise his role as narrator and executive producer. The familiar voices of Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold will also return, voicing Chris’ parents, Julius and Rochelle Rock.
The excitement peaked during the SDCC panel on July 27 in the Indigo Ballroom, where Crews, Arnold, and the new cast members took the stage. They were joined by executive producer and showrunner Sanjay Shah, known for his work on “King of the Hill” and “South Park.” The panel featured the unveiling of the series poster, providing fans with a glimpse of the animation style and character designs.
Tim Johnson Jr. will voice Chris in this reimagined series, alongside Ozioma Akagha as Tonya, Terrence Little Gardenhigh as Drew, and Gunnar Sizemore as Greg. The animated series will once again delve into Rock’s experiences growing up in Brooklyn during the late 1980s, capturing the comedic essence of his youth.
“Everybody Still Hates Chris” was first announced in August 2022, produced by CBS Studios, Chris Rock Enterprises, and 3 Arts Entertainment. The half-hour animated series will offer a fresh yet familiar take on Rock’s upbringing, combining nostalgia with new humor.
During the panel, Crews and Arnold expressed their enthusiasm for reprising their roles. Johnson shared his excitement, revealing that he has long been a fan of the series. Shah highlighted the enduring appeal of the original show, which continues to gain new fans through syndication, paving the way for this animated revival.
As the premiere date approaches, fans can look forward to more updates and sneak peeks. The first look at “Everybody Still Hates Chris” has set the stage for an exciting new chapter, blending classic comedy with vibrant animation.
