New first-look images have been released from Give Me Some Sugah, the faith-driven drama directed by Tasha Smith, ahead of its December 16 premiere on Netflix.
Inspired by the viral real-life story of Lenore Lindsey, a South Shore Chicago bakery owner, the film follows a woman stunned by a discovery that inspires her to reclaim lost time, heal old wounds, and find purpose in life’s unexpected miracles. Lindsey’s true story went viral after NBC Chicago covered her discovery that one of her most loyal regular customers was actually her long-lost biological son, a story that eventually caught the attention of Tyler Perry.
Taraji P. Henson leads the cast alongside Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, known as Joey Bada$$. The ensemble also includes Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Russell Hornsby, Alexis Louder, Semaj Prather, Arischa Conner, Angela Davis, and Caroline Avery Granger, with Smith and DeVon Franklin also appearing in the film.
Smith directs from a script by Randy Brown (Miracles From Heaven). Her previous directing credits include Mayor of Kingstown, Harlem, Bel-Air, and BMF. Franklin and Perry produce, with Tony Strickland and Angi Bones executive producing for Tyler Perry Studios alongside Bart Lipton.
The film marks the second collaboration between Perry and Franklin on faith-driven stories for Netflix, following Ruth and Boaz, which debuted at No. 2 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies list.
