First Trailer for Supergirl Shows Milly Alcock as a Messy, Gritty Hero

Warner Bros. and DC Studios just gave fans their first real look at Supergirl, the upcoming summer blockbuster starring House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock as Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El. The trailer debuted over the weekend at a New York City event with director Craig Gillespie, writer Ana Nogueira, and Alcock herself in attendance, giving audiences a glimpse at a superhero story that’s equal parts dark, messy, and fun.

Milly Alcock’s Kara isn’t your typical superhero. Introduced briefly in James Gunn’s Superman, she stumbles into the Man of Steel’s Fortress of Solitude post-credits, teasing her reluctant, hard-partying personality. The trailer makes it clear: Kara has her own demons. While Clark sees the good in everyone, Kara sees the truth—and sometimes that truth is messy.

Fans will also notice a tonal shift from the usual broody superhero fare. Yes, there’s grit—Kara can handle anything a Mad Max-style baddie throws her way—but there’s also a sense of chaotic fun reminiscent of Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. And yes, Superman’s loyal dog Krypto joins in on the ride.

Based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (illustrated by Bilquis Evely), the film follows Kara on a galaxy-spanning journey with a young alien girl named Knolle as they track down Krem of the Yellow Hill, who murdered Knolle’s father. Fans have compared the comic’s tone to the classic True Grit, and the trailer suggests the film will capture that mix of adventure and emotional weight.

Alcock stars alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa. Directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl is set to hit theaters and IMAX across North America on June 26, 2026.

Check out the trailer for the messy, gritty, and hilarious side of superhero life—Supergirl is officially coming.
