Sundance prize-winning animator Jeron Braxton has assembled an all-star voice cast for his debut animated feature Slime, with Willow Smith, Teyana Taylor, Anna Sawai, John Cho, and John Boyega joining the lineup. Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, who is also producing, will star as well.
Smith will lead the film as Muna, a broke but optimistic young woman who signs up for a paid clinical trial—only to be injected with a mysterious slime that unleashes terrifying powers she can’t control. On the run, Muna kidnaps Glenn (Mescudi), the lab worker who injected her, and the two embark on a desperate journey through a crumbling dystopia in search of safety and a cure. As time runs out, Muna faces the possibility that she is either humanity’s last hope—or its deadliest nightmare.

Slime is described as an anime-inspired, pre-apocalyptic sci-fi monster film infused with retro video-game aesthetics and a satirical edge. Kid Cudi will also deliver an original score, fusing Braxton’s visual style with a trippy sonic experience.
Braxton, whose short Glucose won Best Animated Short at Sundance in 2018, has previously created Baby Demon for Adult Swim and collaborated on visuals for The Weeknd, Vince Staples, and Pusha T. He shared, “Animation has always been an opportunity for me to shift perspective on issues affecting Americans and more explicitly the Black diaspora, and now we can use the genre of horror and cutting-edge technology to create an insane evolution for the medium.”
Cudi added, “Jeron is a powerhouse creative at the forefront of culture, pushing boundaries with everything he does. I’m grateful to have him on the team and am ready to see him bring Slime to life. Mad Solar, we here.”
The film is produced by Mescudi, Karina Manashil, Dennis Cummings, Aaron Bergman, Alex Lebovici, and Jon Oakes, with Brian Ash (The Boondocks) penning the script and serving as executive producer. Hammerstone Studios, Script 2 Screen, and Capstone Pictures are financing and producing alongside Mad Solar.
With its mix of sci-fi horror, biting satire, and fashion-forward anime-inspired visuals, Slime is shaping up to be one of the most original animated features on the horizon.
